امروز 31 دسامبر روز وحدت و همبستگی آذربایجانی های جهان است. بمناسبت این روز، در آذربایجان و در بسیاری از نقاط جهان که آذربایجانیها در این نقاط زندگی می کنند، با شور و شادی جشن گرفته می شود.
آذربایجان حدود ۹ میلیون نفر جمعیت داشته، فقط در ۷۰ کشور جهان قریب ٥۰ میلیون ترک آذربایجانی زندگی می کنند.
۳۱ ام دسامبر که عید ملی آذربایجان می باشد، از ۱۹ سال پیش بدین طرف با هدف تقویت وحدت و همیاری بین اذربایجانی ها، بعنوان روز وحدت آذربایجانیها جشن گرفته می شود.
بمناسبت این روز هم در اذربایجان و هم در نقاطی که ترکهای آذربایجانی در این نقاط زندگی می کنند، مراسمی ترتیب داده شد.
الهام علیف رئیس جمهور آذربایجان با انتشار پیامی بمناسبت این روز، روز وحدت و همیاری را به تمامی آذربایجانیها تبریک گفت.
علیف در پیام خود چنین گفت: ما برای جلوگیری از خونریزی، ویرانی ها، فاجعه ها و همچنین حل مسئله قره باغ از طرق صلح آمیز تلاش بخرج می دهیم. قره باغ جزء لاینفک آذربایجان بوده و این مسئله بایستی در چهارچوب تمامیت ارضی اذربایجان حل و فصل گردد.

The 31st of December is celebrated every year as the Solidarity Day of World Azerbaijanis.
Dozens of millions of Azerbaijanis live in the world today.
They live not only in their homeland - the Azerbaijani Republic (Northern Azerbaijan) and Iran (South Azerbaijan), but also in Turkey, Germany, France, Great Britain, U.S and Middle East countries.
The most representatives of the Azerbaijani diaspora live in Russia. According to various sources, roughly 1,5 - 2 million Azerbaijanis live in Russia.
The establishment of the Azerbaijani Republic has become a powerful incentive to strengthen their position in the society and the growth of consciousness. There was the need for national revival, strengthening national ties. In response to this, the 31st of December was declared as the Solidarity Day of World Azerbaijanis upon the presidential decree in 1993.
Azerbaijanis made great contributions the world civilization living in the territory of Azerbaijan for thousands of years. Wars, revolutions, military conflicts, social-political processes in the world destructed Azerbaijan, some of the Azerbaijanis urged to leave their lands, deported, left their country with the purpose to find a work, and to get education and settled in different countries.
Azerbaijanis lived in their motherland had not an opportunity to meet with their compatriots and to create the relations with them. Prohibitions of the Soviet Period created an obstacle between the relatives. At late 1980s when the soviet regime started to weaken people of Azerbaijan increased their attempts to re-establish the relations with their compatriots.
The history of the Day of the Solidarity of the Azerbaijanis of the whole world starts from late December 1989 when the borders in Nakhchivan destroyed (USSR-Iran borderline). Destroyed the frontier beams between Northern and Southern Azerbaijan ruined. The Conference of the Turkish-speaking countries held in Istanbul at that time decided to celebrate the day of the solidarity of the World Azerbaijanis.
